Onna is a member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and Executive Director of the Black Hills Community Loan Fund located in Rapid City, South Dakota where she shares her passion for financial literacy and helping the underserved population.

Onna had the honor of expanding the loan fund from a solely homeownership focused non-profit to one that provides the community with options for credit building and business development. The loan fund provides services to the underserved population ranging from the youth to the single parent, to the uncredited individual to the one with a negative credit history. Onna’s leadership has grown them into a well awarded organization.

Onna’s passion for community development started in 2001 shortly after graduating from Northern state University in Aberdeen SD, with degrees in finance and economics. After working within the community development field for a few years Onna discovered the need to expand her knowledge therefore, furthered her education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where she earned her Master’s in Applied Sciences with an emphasis on non-profit management in native communities and native community development.

Onna’s passion for the people has led her to advocate for those who are driven to survive their historical trauma by providing a means to a healthier way of living financially and in a way that further empowers the individual by providing access to technical assistance and loan capital. As a survivor Onna understands the importance for those active within her community to understand how trauma impacts an individual’s way of processing and living and this is demonstrated through the way she open’s herself up for her clients to share their stories in a safe and trusting space.
